| Coweta County |

Coweta County was once part of the Creek Indian Nation.
The county is named
for the Creek tribe headed by William McIntosh, Jr. - the half Scot, half-Creek who relinquished lands to the federal government in the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs. McIntosh was slain by an irate group of fellow Creeks at this home on the Chattahoochee River .
Today Coweta County is home to over 97,000 residents and continues to see an explosion in residential and commercial growth.

The City of Newnan, know as the "City of Homes," was first settled in 1828. Named for General Daniel Newnan, a former Secretary of State and U.S. Congressman, Newnan's primary economic force, until the Civil War, was agriculture.
With a population of over
16,000
(U.S. Census Estimated Population, July 2002), Newnan is a center of planned growth and activity for the west central Georgia region. The city has five historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

| Grantville |

Located ten miles south of Newnan, historic Grantville is another community with its roots in agriculture and rail transportation.
Most of the town has been restored and is one of the largest historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

| Moreland |
|
Moreland is six miles south of Newnan and was originally a crossroads settlement of farm families. In 1888 the town was incorporated and named after Dr. John Moreland, a physician and stockbroker in the Atlanta and West Point Railroad Company.
Today Moreland is home to the Lewis Grizzard Museum which honors the popular Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist, book author and speaker who called Moreland home from the age of six until he began college. Click here to visit the Lewis Grizzard Museum website.

| City of Senoia |
| Senoia was named in 1860 for the mother of Chief William McIntosh. The first building was erected in 1860 for a church and mercantile office. The Confederate forces used this building as a commissary.
Today Senoia enjoys a growing and prosperous economy. Several movies have been filmed there. Antique shops, furniture stores and the historic Veranda Bed & Breakfast are just some of the attractions.

| Sharpsburg |
Ten miles east of Newnan, Sharpsburg was incorporated in December 1871. The town was first established as a trading post in 1825 and remained an agricultural center until the late 1940s.
Today the Sharpsburg area has seen rapid growth in its population. |
